“Money can't buy you happiness, but it can buy you a yacht big enough to pull up right alongside it.”
― David Lee Roth.
Steve Forest encompasses a broad range of knowledge and skills when it comes to yachts. He has extensive experience of overseeing the re-fits of yachts of various sizes and styles, in the US, Europe and the Far East in yards such as Derecktor Gunnel, Pota Sole San Remo, Kha Shing Rybovich Spencer, Azimuth, ARB Miami and more.
Steve, who grew up in Wisconsin, is a trained Aviation Mechanic. He began his career in the United States Navy, servicing jet craft. In addition to engines, he repaired everything from electronics to air conditioning and hydraulics. He also gained experience in sheet metal fabrication. His tour of duty included three Mediterranean tours on aircraft carriers.
After Steve's years in the Navy, he embarked on a career in yachting. Over the years he has worked on all types of both motor and sailing yachts in sizes ranging from 65ft (19 meters) to 192ft (59 meters). Please see list at the bottom of this page of yachts and areas cruised. He began this career as a deckhand, gradually working his way up to Captain, but also held positions as Engineer and First Mate. Over the years he has overseen every type of refit, as well as several builds, in various parts of the world; Italy, USA, Spain and Taiwan,. He was a team member, employed by the owner to oversee the construction and development of three 80 foot boats. His responsibilities have covered planning, budgeting, selecting shipyards, negotiations, supervising craftsmen and freelance workers, liaising with shipyards and ensuring the best possible result for the owner.
Steve has in depth knowledge of all types of onboard systems and has hands on experience of working with electrics, electronics, hydraulics, refrigeration, plumbing and air conditioning.
An outstanding boat handler and navigator, Steve also developed the team player and leadership skills needed to run a well-managed yacht. He is extremely detail oriented and highly organized, and has kept all the yachts he has been employed on, in pristine condition. In his yachting career, Steve has cruised onboard both charter and private yachts along the US East Coast and in many US inland waters, throughout the Caribbean, Bahamas, and the Mediterranean.
In 2003 Steve's employment situated him in Taiwan overseeing the build of a large motor yacht. He seized the opportunity to become familiar with the islands, as well as with China, and took a great liking to the area. He noticed the difficulties in communicating with the shipyard, and decided to learn to speak Chinese and to understand the culture, in order to be able to do a better job for his employer. Through this he gained respect and a tremendous advantage, and he was able to achieve much better results than other build captains in the area.
Word got around the international yachting community both in the US and Europe about Steve's presence and abilities. He was contacted by people involved in yacht construction in the Far East who needed his assistance - and Pan Asian Yacht Services was born. Today Steve is helping a number of owners, brokers and captains with a wide variety of issues that relate to the building or refitting of yachts. His assignments range from minor jobs such as simply photographing a project in progress and sending photos to his customers, to overseeing complete new construction projects from the initial phase of choosing the right shipyard to the final completion and sea trials.
Often times during the construction the yard and/or the owner need to make small changes, these changes can be costly and confusing as dealers brokers and owners try to work through the issues with the shipyard via phone, fax and email. Pan Asian Yacht Services will review and keep track of all change orders, and verify that they have been completed.
Supervision of the project during construction can be one of the most important aspects of any project. Even on production boats the specification can change from boat to boat and there are endless areas where the project can get off track, from small change orders to changes in sub contractors, and the design of onboard systems that are provided to the shipyard.
Pan Asian Yacht Services can assist you in finding a builder, dealer, and shipyard in Taiwan or China that meets your needs and the needs of your project, budget and time frame.
We can meet at your location anywhere in the world to do a final review with your broker/dealer and design team; ensuring that Pan Asian Yacht Services is aware of all your expectations and can stay ahead of any problems.
Pan Asian Yacht Services can:
-
Provide a constant review of all onboard systems and their installation to insure that they meet with the approved drawings, and that any changes that are needed are in the best interest of your project and the long term safety and maintenance of your vessel.
-
Affirm that all production point is meet on time and that all items meet with the terms of the contract before making payments.
-
Perform a full sea trial and final examination of all systems before you make final payment for your boat. This can be a problematic area as the shipyard puts on a full court press to make the shipping date.
Often times projects can get off track as a result of small changes and decisions that need to be made during the construction process, in most cases these can be resolved with the project engineer in short order saving everyone time and effort.
Even for dealers these services can offer a huge savings and speed up the delivery when the boat arrives at its final destination, as well as help to ensure a happy owner.
Pan Asian Yacht Services is proud to provide services to dealers and shipyards to keep track of problems that keep repeating themselves during the delivery process.
